Devil’s Head Coffee was born from our passion for the outdoors. As avid adventurers, we often found ourselves awake early, tackling trails with terrible coffee in hand. Determined to change that, we started roasting in a small popcorn popper, quickly upgrading to an electric drum roaster as our needs grew. Soon, we were roasting 50 lbs a month in our Bowness laundry room, often drawing curious neighbors who ended up buying our coffee!
After moving to a garage with a 1 kg roaster, we realized we needed a professional space to expand. We found a new location and upgraded to a 5 kg roaster, marking a significant step in our journey.

Meet Chris, the founder and head roaster! He handles everything from roasting and sourcing to customer service and managing our mobile café. With a background in Environmental Consulting, Chris discovered his passion for coffee after an injury sidelined his rock climbing. He embraced coffee roasting, applying scientific methods to craft unique roast profiles. You can find him tinkering with espresso and roasting daily at the shop—stop by and say hi!
Tanis
Tanis has always loved coffee, enjoying 15 minutes of quiet each morning to start her day. Chris, a natural morning person, would jump out of bed with a shot of espresso. While commuting downtown, she would think to herself, “He needs a hobby so I can reclaim my mornings!” Fast forward 10 years, and she inspired him to pursue coffee roasting. Now, she manages the books and events for the business while juggling a full-time HR job and being an amazing mom—truly a superhero!
